Brown, Fisher, and Cochrane Family Collection

The collection includes materials that belonged to the Brown, Cochrane and Fisher families. Included are personal books, maps, art catalogs, business records, photographs of the Brown and Cochrane families as well as printed materials related to Dedham history. Caroline Dwyer, an undergraduate student at UMass Boston, created an inventory list of all items in the collection.

Old Village Cemetery Records

A list of the known plots and graves in the Old Village Cemetery. The oldest surviving gravestone belongs to Hannah Dyar who passed away on September 15, 1678. Other notable names in the cemetery include: John Allen, Joseph Belcher, Samuel Dexter, Edward Alleyn, Eleazer Lusher, the Fairbanks and Fisher families. There is also a monument to Civil War Soldiers who died at Camp Meigs as well as those who perished on the ship the “Maritana” off the coast of Nahant, MA..

This document does not reflect every person that might have been buried in the cemetery, many gravestones and markers have deteriorated over time and in some cases were not replaced.

Edward DeVincenzo’s Moseley’s on the Charles Collection

This collection was donated by Edward “Ed” DeVincenzo (1961 -), last owner of
Moseley’s on the Charles in May 2024. The collection includes photographs,
advertisements, clippings, piano sheet music, payroll records, and memorabilia.
It spans the years from circa 1921 to 2019 and is arranged into eight series, which
are divided according to the function of groups of documents. Folders and items
within each series are arranged chronologically. Many of the photographs are undated.

Dedham Historical Register

From 1890-1903 the Dedham Historical Society printed a quarterly publication that included genealogy of families in Dedham as well as other interests of the society members. Many articles were about early settlement, taxes, towns, the Revolutionary War, religion, military, etc. An index is included. There is a set of bound volumes of a full run of the Register in the Library. Some of the Registers are also digitized and available online through the Internet
Archive website.

Pilling Engineering Company

This collection spans the mid to late 19th century into the 20th century. There are maps and plans as well as documents related to properties and businesses that Pilling did work for including Mother Brook.

Some of the envelopes are hard to read and there may still be typos, misspelled names of streets, businesses and people.

Colonial Military Collection

These records are about military service during the colonial period
including a pay list, a roster of first company, a record of those who served in the French
and Indian War, and a training manual.
The list of the first company in Dedham was under the command of Capt. Joseph Richards, 1st Lieutenant Daniel Draper, and 2nd Lieutenant Joseph Richards Junior. There are
113 names in all. The list is dated Nov. 25th, 1754.
The list composed on the occasion of the bicentennial of the incorporation of Dedham,
1836 has 53 names in all.

Chaloner Family Papers

These are letters that for the most part were written to Martha (Church) Chaloner
Cunningham. They include letters from her father Benjamin Church, and from her first
husband, John Chaloner, and their sons, as well as receipts for household costs.

Cobb Family Papers

There are five series in this collection. Series I: Jonathan Holmes Cobb
Papers; Series II: New England Silk Co. Papers of J. H. Cobb; Series III: Isabel (Cobb)
French Papers; Series IV: Abigail (Cobb) Guild Journals; Series V: John Doggett Cobb
Personal Papers; Series VI: John Doggett Cobb Civil War Papers.

Jonathan Francis Guild Collection

Jonathan Guild was the son of George Austin Guild and Abigail (Cobb) Guild. He had
three siblings: Abigail Elizabeth Guild (Cutter); George Cobb Guild; and Sophia Doggett
Cobb (Smith). Jonathan Guild attended Dedham High School and graduated in the Class
of 1886. He became a photographer, listed in the town directories as having a studio at
575 High Street, and lived with his parents at 41 School Street. Later, he married a
widow, Emma Cline Beach in Tampa, Florida. They resided at 47 School Street, which
Jonathan had purchased. He was a successful photographer who took portraits, views,
and groups. He did framing to order as well as custom outdoor photography work. Mrs.
Emma Guild died on 9-8-1964 at the age of 83.

Shuttleworth Family Papers

The Shuttleworth family owned a house on the present-day site of the Dedham Museum & Archive (legally the Dedham
Historical Society). Jeremiah Shuttleworth was appointed postmaster in 1794 bu George Washington. His four
children were Hannah, Jeremiah, Henry, and Samuel. Another Samuel was his brother.
The collection includes business papers, legal documents, tax papers, an account book
from 1807-1827, Hannah’s schoolbooks and her will. Also appointment paperss and post office
materials.
