SPECIAL DATE AND TIME: Sunday, March 6, 2016 @ 2PM

Lecture and Book Signing: Liberty’s First Crisis:

Adams, Jefferson and the Misfits Who Saved Free Speech

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the 1789 Sedition Act, it was a piece of legislation passed by
Congress and signed by President John Adams. In its basic essence, the act made it a crime to criticize the U.S. government. Charles Slack brings to life the politics of the time and the impact of this legislation through the words and actions of John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and others. We thought this lecture quite appropriate during a presidential election year when the civil rights of U.S. citizens, immigrants, and migrants are a major topic of discussion.

Alicia Svenson, AIA, Senior Architectural Conservator, Building Conservation Associates, Inc.

“Building Harvard Stadium: Early Concrete Design and Construction”

Built in 1903, Harvard Stadium was the first collegiate athletic stadium built in the United States, and was a pioneering use of reinforced concrete in the construction of large structures. Because of its early importance in these areas, and its influence on the design of later stadiums, it was designated a National Historic Landmark.
