Book cover for publication on the Mother Brook, by Judy Neiswander

New Arrival in our Gift Shop

An important new book has just been published about the history of East Dedham. Titled Mother Brook and the Mills of East Dedham, the book traces the rise of manufacturing along Mother Brook and focuses on the lives of the immigrant laborers who worked in the textile mills located there. These newcomers created the lively community of East Dedham and the book describes what their lives were like in the mills, where they lived, the organizations they formed, and the fierce pride they felt in their community. Many of their descendants live in Dedham today. The book contains images from the Dedham Museum & Archive’s collection, as well as material contributed from families descended from the mill workers. This important contribution to the history of our town was written by Judy Neiswander, a former Museum board member, and is available in our Gift Shop. It can also be ordered from Silver Street Silver Street Media, a small Massachusetts book distributor, at https://tinyurl.com/438t4kdw, and from Amazon.
