Several spots for this tour are now available because of the rescheduling from Saturday to Sunday due to inclement weather.
Did you know that Dedham has a Town Forest between I-95 Northbound and I-95 Southbound? Step inside a hundred yards and you’d think you were in a nature preserve!
Join us for a walking tour inside the Town Forest, where you’ll hear historic facts (and some myths) while also learning about trees, spring flowers, and stone walls. The tour will be led by Dedham Museum & Archive educator, Jim Parr, and Stephanie Radner of the Conservation Commission.
Time: The tour will be approximately 2 hours, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Location: Meet at the entrance to the Town Forest. The Town Forest entrance is on the north side of Washington Street/route 1A, by the route 95 overpass. For the location, you can use the Greater Boston Urology Care Center at 910 Washington Street, which is diagonally across the street. Do not park there since you’ll have to cross Washington Street. Parking is available on the Town Forest side, a block or so away, either on Fay Road or Carmichael Circle (they flank the entrance/95); Chickering Road is also available for parking. I’ve attached a map showing the location.
Sunday is also the James Joyce Ramble, so plan accordingly if you live near the race route; a map is attached. The race also starts at 11:00 and there will be road closures around the race route.
Because this is a walk in the woods and there will be roots and moderately challenging terrain, participants are encouraged to wear proper footware, bring water, insect/tick repellent, and sunscreen. You will also need to sign a waiver of liability, taking responsibility for yourself during the walk.
The James Joyce Ramble will also be held on Sunday, so plan accordingly if you are arriving from Dedham. View the race route here.
Here is what people have said about Friday, April 15th’s, tour!
“It really is a hidden treasure in Dedham! It is a great alternative to Wilson Mountain and Cutler Park.”
“Lots of fun facts! interesting chewing on birch twigs that taste like wintergreen!”
